I respond to what I see on the canvas.
I attempt to explore emotions triggered by visual effects achieved in a spontaneous and subconscious manner.

This approach is inspired by jazz music where improvisation often creates unexpected outcomes.

Syncopation effect of the jazz music also play a part in forming the visual rhythm of the artwork. This series of abstract works is inspired by the care-free drawing style paintings of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Cy Twombly, as well as by emotion filled abstract work of contemporay artists like Janina McCormack and Sherie Franssen.

I enjoy creating paintings that give a complete-incomplete tension. These few pieces are the results of an attempt with brighter colours. Spontaneous execution with emotional expression.

These few pieces are the results of an attempt with brighter colours. With no predetermined way to complete the paintings, I follow what I see on the canvas. The final paintings show the 'back and forth' process between realistic and abstract interpretation. It is an interplay of emotional versus logical, a reciporal exchange between "what i see" and "what i feel". This series of works, I made an attempt to incorporate realistic subjects into my abstract expressions. It reflects my subconscious interpretation of the subjects.

I selected architecture as the subject for Singapore heritage. Old buildings reflect the lives of our forefathers, specially those in chinatown where people lived and businesses flourished during the last generation. In this series of work, space is often created through the contrast of hard and soft edges.

This is one of the pieces where I explored the notion of constructing through destruction - colour applied are being "removed" by applying a layer of white paints. let me hum a tune, an ode to hue
